Real Family Review: How a Homeschool Family with Four Kids Uses Our 440 lb Cuddle Swing

Real Family Review: How a Homeschool Family with Four Kids Uses Our 440 lb Cuddle Swing

Finding honest, real-life feedback on sensory swings isn’t always easy. Product reviews can tell you what a sensory swing looks like or what features it has, but they don’t always show how it fits into everyday family life with children of different ages and sensory needs.

On August 28, 2026, Maryellen Yates, creator of Growing Together: Neurodiversity at Home, published an honest video review after using our Heavy-Duty Cuddle Swing with her family for about two weeks. Maryellen is a homeschool parent in a neurodivergent family. She has four children — ages 12, 8, 5, and 2 — and regularly shares practical insights around regulation, sensory needs, and everyday parenting.

She received the swing for review and shared a balanced look at installation, real-world use, safety, and how each of her children used it.

What Her Family Experienced

Installation and Setup
Maryellen showed what was included in the package and how her family installed the swing in their home. The process was straightforward, though she noted that installation requires a suitable load-bearing point.

Real-World Weight Testing
Her husband first tested the swing at 255 lbs. For a separate real-world weight test, all four children were placed in the swing together at approximately 200 lbs total. No issues were observed during either test. Maryellen also clearly noted that the full 440-lb maximum capacity was not independently tested.

How Each Child Used the Swing
Different ages and sensory preferences led to very different ways of using the same swing:

  • 12-year-old: As a sensory seeker, he used the swing for spinning, rocking, gentle movement, and sometimes simply relaxing while listening to his Yoto player.
  • 8-year-old: He particularly enjoyed the cocoon-like feeling and stretchy fabric, using it more like a sensory hug.
  • 5-year-old: She used it primarily like a traditional swing and was the child who asked to use it most often.
  • 2-year-old: He used it only with close adult supervision.

Everyday Use After Two Weeks
One of the most useful observations was that her children naturally gravitated toward the swing multiple times a day without being prompted. She also noticed that one of her children sometimes went into the swing after returning home from appointments as part of his transition and regulation routine.

Safety and Practical Considerations
Maryellen emphasized that supervision is important, particularly for younger children. In her home, her 2-year-old was not allowed to use the swing alone. When no adult was available to supervise, she detached the swing and put it back up when they were available again. Being able to quickly detach the swing made it easier for her family to manage in their household.

A Balanced Perspective

What makes this review especially useful is that it isn’t purely promotional. Maryellen also discussed the practical challenges of using a sensory swing in a busy family home, including installation, available space, supervision, and taking turns when multiple children wanted to use it.

At the same time, she shared several things her family genuinely appreciated: the soft and stretchy fabric, the ability to detach the swing when needed, its 440-lb rated weight capacity, and the fact that her children naturally returned to it throughout the day.

This kind of balanced, real-world feedback can give families a better sense of what using a sensory swing may actually look like at home than a list of product features alone.
